1843 - Abbeville, formerly La Chapelle, is founded by Father Antoine Desire Megret, a native of Abbeville, France, on land purchased from Joseph LeBlanc. The city will became the parish seat of Vermilion in 1845. incorporated by the state in 1850. Home of the Louisiana Dairy Festival.
