Simsboro was founded by James Monroe Sims, a native of Georgia, in 1849. Because his settlement was not located near a major road in those days Sims found it necessary to build his own flour, grist and saw mills and a store. In 1884 it became one of the original stops in the parish laid out by the Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacific Railroad.
