Community Spirit
Morehouse Parishós (county) rural, country-like atmosphere provides many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities and recreational pursuits, yet its location near Interstate 20 and Monroe makes it an ideal location for light industry and distribution. Its early settlers were mostly devout Baptist pioneers who quickly established churches, schools and broad fields of cotton. This attitude of faith, education and hard work prevails to this day.
Geography
Morehouse Parish, located in the northeastern part of Louisiana, is bound by the state of Arkansas to the north; the Boeuf River on the east and south; and the Ouachita River on the west. Bastrop, the government seat, is the largest town. Other communities include Mer Rouge, Bonita, Collinston and Oak Ridge. Bayou Bartholomew which divides the parish diagonally from northeast to southwest and Bayou Bonne Idee which flows southward into the Boeuf River through the eastern part of the Morehouse are two more large clear-water streams in the parish. Many smaller streams flow throughout the eight hundred and nine square miles of forested hill country, wooded swamps and alluvial land that make up Morehouse Parish.
