Early Cattle Industry

Long-horned Spanish cattle introduced by Avoyelles Indians long before the French arrived on the scene; used as a foundation stock by pioneers. Acadians and others settled the area, 1760s; developed vacheries (cattle ranches) in this prairie region of Southwest La.

Located in Welch, District 7, Hwy 90, Jefferson Davis Parish. 135
