State Historical Marker

LaPlace

The town of LaPlace was named after plantation owner Bazile LaPlace. In this area about 500 slaves participated in an uprising in 1811. This is the site of the disastrous Bonnet Carre Crevasse, 1872-1883, which cut a channel from the Mississippi to Lake Pontchartrain.

Never ordered, see Private Marker #21, District 3, St. John the Baptist Parish. 162
