When the Territory of Orleans is divided into counties the present-day Claiborne Parish is part of NatchitochesCounty. |
| 1811 |
The first settlement of English-speaking people is established inthe area as pioneers immigrate from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. |
| 1822 |
The first school established in Claiborne parish area. |
| 1823 |
A post office is established in the area as postal service is begun between Natchitoches and the Arkansas Territory capital. |
| 1828 March |
The state legislature creates Claiborne Parish from part of Natchitoches County. The first parish seat is the home of John Murrell, but is soon moved to the site of Russellville, near present-day Athens until 1836.. |

The state approprates $15.000 to clear Loggy Bayou and Lake Bistineau for navigation.. |
| 1846 |
The parish seat is moved to Athens where the Claiborne Academy building is used as the courthouse. |
| 1848 November 29 |
The Claiborne Academy building burns to the ground. The building and all the parish records were lost in a suspect blaze. The seat of parish government was then changed to Homer, located in the center of the parish. The present couthouse of Greek Revival design is one of the oldest public buildings of continuous use in the state. |

The town of Arizona, incorporated this year, will build the first cotton factory in the state. |
