Armand Beauvais, 1783-1843

Sept. 6
Born Point Coupee Parish, youngest of 8 children of Pierre Charles St. James Beauvais and Marie Françoise Richer.
1806 Buys a plantation (11 arpents on the Mississippi) from his mother.
1810 Governor William C. C. Claiborne names Beauvais Justice of Peace of Pointe Coupee Parish.
1811 Marries Louise Delphine Labatut of New Orleans. There are no children from this marriage.
1814 Elected to the Louisiana House to which he is returned in 1816 and 1820.
1821-1823 Speaker of the Louisiana State House of Representatives
1822 Elected to the Louisiana State Senate.
1827-1830 Serves as the President of the Senate.
1829
October 6
Assumes governor’s seat on the death of P A C Bourguignon Derbigny until January 14, 1830.
1829
When the legislature is out of session, the seat of government moves to Donaldsonville.
1830 Loses re-election as President of the Senate to Jacques Dupre, but remains in the Senate.
1830
July
Loses race for governor to Andre Bienvenu Roman.
1833
January
Chenevert resigns from State Senate, Beauvais returns and serves until 1834.
1837 Adversely affected by the national depression.
1839 All of Beauvais’ property in Pointe Coupee and West Felicianas parishes is sold at public auction.
1840 Moves to New Orleans.
1843
November 18
Dies at age 60.
