July
In July Burr as vice president kills Alexander Hamilton in a duel at Weehawken, New Jersey. Burr seeks refuge with Charles Biddle in Philadelphia. Soon he was meeting oftenwith General James Wilkinson. They began drawing up plans.One of his contacts was Englishman Charles Williamson who reported to British Ambassador Anthony Merry. Burr sought British aid for the plot.Merry accepts Burr's proposal, Williamson leaves for London to encourage the British Government.

Winter 1804-1805
Over the Winter Burr and Wilkinson's plot makes its way to Washington D. C. The assemble maps of East and West Florida as well as New Orleans and the Louisiana territories. Wilkinson receives a letter from General John Adair, hero of the revolutionary war urging his efforts in Mexico.
Burr tells the British that Claiborne's efforts in New Orleans are ineffectual and on the verge of collapse. He wanted a small British squadron off the mouth of the Mississippi River and $.5 million to finance the operation. He Promised to deliver the Southwest , Mexican territory of Texas and New Mexico.

Burr travels to Pittsburgh.

May 11
Burr is in Cincinnati talks with John Smith, merchant and Senator from Ohio, and Jonathan Dayton, former Senator. Rumors of the plan to separate the Southwest begin to circulate.
Burr moves onto Frankfort and Lexington in Kentucky and Nashvill Tennessee.to visit Andrew Jackson for four days.

Burr goes to Fort Massac on the Ohio River to meet Wilkinson. Wilkinson writes several letters of introduction to influential citizens of Louisiana. The most important is to Daniel Clark.

Burr reaches Natchez.

June 26
Burr reaches New Orleans and stays for three weeks. He is Cordially received by Claiborne, attends many social occassions as guest of honor including one hosted by Daniel Clark.
He stays with Edward Livingston.
Burr and Wilkinson needed a war with Spain over Mexico. This would attract volunteer troops. At times war seemed imminent with troops facing over the Sabine River.

Fall
Wilkinson is no longer an eager supporter of Burr. He has succeeded in establishing the neutral ground in Western Orleans Territory, a boundary that ends the threat of war. Wilkinson says that Burr lied about Washington's approval of War over Mexico.
Burr and Wilkinson also needed the discontent of the Western population, especially the Creoles of New Orleans. The Creoles hasd accepted American rule with resignation and apathy. Other western settlers had uninterrupted access to New Orleans.
Burr also lost the support of Commodore Truxton and Colonel Morgan. and could not secure the needed aid from the British. William Pitt dies in 1806 and his successor concentrates on Napoleon rather than liberation of Mexico. Rumors were wide spread. Wilkinsonwas an opportunist waiting for Burr to stumble

Summer
Burr writes to Wilkinson in cypher full of misinformation and fabrication.
Boats were built on the Ohio, recruitment was less than needed and the Navy support was non-existant.

August
Burr leaves Philadelphia hoping to bring it all together. On the 27th he is at Blennerhassetts Island onthe Ohio River, home of Harmon Blennerhassett an enthudiastic supporter, to gather supplies, build 15 boats to hold 50 men each. He lies to Blennerhassett about strength of support by Mexico Association in New Orleans.

September
Burr revisits Andrew Jackson and purchased land from Edward Livingston in the Ouachita valley that are part of the Bastrop grant. He purchases almost 400,000 acres of the Bastrop grant but the sale is not registered in Louisiana or Kentucky. It is purchased from Charles Lynch, Livingston's partner in the purchase.
Andrew Jackson is excited and writes to Jefferson that he will raise three regiments.

October 22
Jefferson calls a cabinet meeting and writes letters to western governors, warning them and ordering Burr's arrest if he commits overt acts of treason.

October 24
Gunboats are dispatched to New Orleans and John Graham Secretary of Orleans Territory. He follows Burr's movements and replaces Wilkinson as governor of the Louisiana territory.

December
Burr appears before a grand jury in Kentucky but is exonerated. The Attorney General there, Davies is removed from office.

November 27 Jefferson issues a proclamation alerting the nation of Burr's intentions and warning citizens not to take part. Andrew Jackson writes to Claiborne warning of Wilkinson. Despite all this Burr moves ahead with his plans and small groups of followers move southward.

December 9
Boats are seized by federal forces at Marietta. In New Orlans rumors tell of thousands of armed men moving toward the city.
Wilkinson, in New Orleans declares a reign of terror, areests several men identified with Burr including Samuel Swartout, Peter Ogdan, Dr. Justus Eric Bollman and John Adair. Wilkinson is fully supported by Claiborne who later comes to his defense.

Claiborne sees a chance to defeat his foes "Clark, Livingston and Co." by associating with the Burrites. He repairs the city's fortifications and prepares the city for attack.

Without Wilkinson's support the conspiracy falls apart and Burr is arrested in Wake field by Captain William P. Gaines.
