Jean Baptiste is educated in Paris and arrives in New Orleans in 1722 when it becomes the colonial capital, to serve as treasurer of the Marine. |

He is responsible for the construction of the Harvey Canal which is completed in 1739. It provides an alternate route to bring goods into New Orleans from the Gulf of Mexico. He cultivates indigo a land grant in the vicinity of the canal. |
