Marries Martha Lucie Dent. She is a life-long invalid. The couple have no children

Acts as a second for his brother Samuel Levi Wells III in the famous Sand Bar Duel
1841-1843
Serves as a representative in the State House of Representatives

Owner of world famous race horse Lecompte. In 1854 one of three races between famed horses Lecompte and Lexington is attended by many dignitaries from around the country.
1860
Runs for Louisiana governor as a Whig candidate.
1863
July 15
Dies on a visit to Hempstead, Texas. He is buried there.
