Europe: Spanish King Philipe V begins a 14 month seige of Gibralter. Ephraim Chambers publishes the first Cyclopedia in London. Former Benedictine monk Abbe Provost publishes fictional Memoirs and Adventures of a man of Quality; French painter Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin; playright Pierre de Marivaux; English poetry by Alexander Pope; novelist Henry Fielding; music by George Frederick Handel.

January 21, 1728; de Noyan, Bienville’s brother, attorney, and a Lt. in the French army sells his plantation of 5 arpents to the Jesuits Fathers. The Jesuit plantation (Common St. to Felicity) will be confiscated in 1763.
