South America & Caribbean:Diamonds discovered in Brazil.
North America:Baltimore formally established and is being settled by German emigrants. Cultural differences between Natchez Indians and French settlers heat up. Benjamin Franklin, 23, becomes co-owner of the Pennsylvania Gazette and publishes treatise on paper currency.
Europe: The Treaty of Seville ends a 2 year war against England and France. England will keep Gibralter but recognizes Spainish succession rights to its Italian duchies. Music by J. S. Bach; a modest proposal by Jonathan Swift.

October 28,1729; Natchez Indians massacre more than 200 settlers and take several hundred women, children and black slaves prisoner. The colonists had demanded that the Natchez give up their sacred burial ground.
The draftsman Gonichon is one of the survivors from Natchez.
After the attack at Natchez, actual fortifications are first considered for New Orleans.
About this time Sr. Pierre Baron, who has pushed his way into the Chief Engineer job, angers Etienne Perier who sends him back to France. Ignace Broutin is named Engineer-in-Chief.

By 1729 New Orleanians have built the first levee, but it is only a slight improvement over the natural bank of the Mississippi.
