South America & Caribbean:Events of this year in this region influencing Louisiana.
North America:The colony of Georgia established between the Savanah and Altamah Rivers. France establishes a fort on western Canada's Lake of the Woods. Benjamin Franklin begins publication of Poor Richard's Almanack and the Philadelphia Zeitung, first foreign language periodical in the British colonies. Franklin also begins to revolutionize postal service in the colonies to facilitate delivery of his publications.
Europe:Jose Patino is the Spanish Minister of Marine and Finance who has reorganized and built a navy of some 600 ships by this year. When he dies four years later he has restored the Spanish navy nearly to its sixteenth century glory.

A city plan certified by Broutin is completed. Notes on the sheet add that the moat is only 18" to 20" deep and contains water only when it rains. Posts with stretchers around the Place de Armes and the levee are only 20" high and are meant to keep vehicles from crossing.
Around this time the colony is returned to the king. The Intendant Salmon proposes brick bridges across streets to promote drainage. A drainage system on a plan by Broutin shows bridges on St. Peter, St. Louis, Bienville, St. Philip and L'Arcenal (Governor Nicholls).

Governor Etienne Perier and Intendant Salmon ask for permission to build new barracks. The original barracks are in the square bordered by Bourbon, Toulouse, Royal and St. Louis. The request is repeated May 22, 1733, August 5, 1733. Finally, on September 15, 1733 the structure is authorized by Maurepas.

Two and one-half miles south of Cloutierville in Natchitoches Parish is the site (Sang Pour Sang Hill) of the defeat of the Natchez Indians in 1732 by French troops and their Indian allies. The Natchez had attacked Fort St. Jean Baptiste de Natchitoches.
