June 20 Intendant Rochemore writes that after a January 20 meeting work began immediately on a moat and palisade with bastions, platforms and curtins according to plans by Chief Engineer Deverges. A quick plan of the palisades shows the large four block square and names Hospital Street for the first time. It also shows Chartres closed between Iberville and Bienville behind the governor's house built for Vaudreuil in 1745. |

August 24 A letter by Intendant Rochemore states that the moat is almost complete and the palisade at the river is partially complete. He complains of placement of the gates which Deverges places at St. Peter. It is convenient to the market which is on the levee near where the Jax Brewery is today. |
