| For the third year in a row Yellow Fever rages in New Orleans. 2,500 will die this year. Leonidas Polk is the rector of the Trinity Church in New Orleans from 1855 to 1860. Frank Bellew is a caricaturist and cartoonist active in New Orleans circa 1855. He is considered an important influence in the evolution of the modern comic strip. |

Parish. It is founded by Daughters of the Cross of Treguier, France,
under Mother Mary Hyacinth Le Conniat on request of Bishop Martin. The
Battle of Mansura, May 16, 1864, began on the Convents grounds.
The Union Avenue Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Washington Parish is organized by 11 charter members in a log cabin at Pools Bluff . It was the first organized church, and it s building housed the first school in Bogalusa. Several log buildings also used as schools were occupied until 1874, when the first lumber church was built. The All Saints Episcopal Church in Patterson, La. is built in 1855, and is originally known as Holy Trinity. It will be moved to present location in DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, in 1942. Listed on National Register of Historic Places because of its superior Gothic Revival architecture. |
Tezcuco Plantation in St.
James Parish is built by Benjamin F. Tureaud, for his wife Aglae,
daughter of Michel Douradose Bringier of L'Hermitage. It is constructed
of plantation-made red brick and Louisiana Cypress. Purchased in 1888
by Dr. Julian T. Bringier. Retained by relatives until the 1940s. Tours
are available today.
