The Comus parade marches as the Triumph of Epicurus in which maskers were costumed as a three course dinner. Disguised in paper-mache figures of such delicacies as a bottle of sherry, coffee, cigars, raw oysters and mutton in course after course. Parades had not been staged for the last four years because of Federal occupation. |

June 3 James Madison Wells is removed from office by General Sheridan, now Commander of the 5th Military District, for being an impediment to reconstruction, Wells goes home to Rapides Parish. Sheridan appoints Benjamin Franklin Flanders governor of Louisiana. Major General Philip H. Sheridan holds this post from June 9 to September 5, 1867 |
