President Theodore Roosevelt goes on a bear-hunting expedition in East Carroll Parish in northern Louisiana in October. This hunt is said to have inspired manufacture of the "teddy bear" toy. He recorded his adventures here in an article entitled ³In the Louisiana Canebrakes.²

The town of Albany, Louisiana, incorporated in Livingston Parish in 1953, was established by the (B.R. H. & E.) Railroad in 1907-08. It is crossed by old north-south Turnpike Road from Springfield to Natchez, Mississippi on a portion of Spanish Headright granted to Nancy Setton in 1801. |
Zemurry House built at No. 2 Audubon Place. It became the home of Samuel (Sam, the banana man) Zemurry , the Chairman of the United Fruit Company. Zemurry was a benefactor of Tulane University and left the house to serve as the residence of the University s President.

Carrie (Carry) A. Nation arrives in New Orleans in December 1907 toting a Bible and a box of miniature hatchets. Mayor Martin Behrman suggests that she refrain from her usual saloon smashing. In three days she talked to large crowds at the YMCA, and visited such dens of iniquity as Storyville and the Fair Grounds. |
