Lambremont becomes Governor of Louisiana. Mahalia Jackson Born. Kid Ory brings his band to New Orleans where he hires a succession of talented players (Armstrong Oliver, Johnny Dodds, Bechet, Jimmy Noone and George Lewis) only to lose them to Chicago. Freddie Keppard takes the first New Orleans jazz group, later called the Original Creole Orchestra out of New Orleans to Los Angeles. Next year he will travel the Orpheum Theater circuit The world s first over water oil well is completed in Caddo Lake in 1911. The Ferry Lake No. 1 near Shreveport is erected by Gulf Refining Co. The well bottomed at 2,185 feet and produces 450 barrels per day. The First Ward Justice Courthouse in Arabi, St. Bernard Parish and Jail is designed by Henry Daboval and built by J.C. Bourg in 1911. Court was held here until 1923 by Justices of the Peace. Three small jail cells remained occupied through 1939. The jail was restored in 1985
