O. H. Simpson becomes Governor of Louisiana. Mel Ott a native of Gretna joins the New York Giants Baseball team as a teenager. He will stay on the team for 22 years playing 2,732 games and hitting 510 home runs. He was inducted into the hall of fame in 1951 and died in an automobile accident in 1958 at the age of 49. Tulane Stadium built.
