Governor Huey Long announces a state-wide tour to gain support for an additional two-cent gas tax to modernize the states highways. On the second day he visits New Roads, Port Allen and Plaquemine. During this trip to the West Bank Long promises concrete highways going through Plaquemine, Port Allen, New Roads and on to Simmesport, the route of modern Highway 1. He also promises that toll bridges would be free. |

| The New Orleans Levee Board has completed plans to provide a public park area filled in and raised 10 feet between the lake and the lake drive with a continuous five and a half mile stepped concrete seawall 3000 feet from the existing shore and swimming and recreational facilities. | Clementine Hunter begins painting at Melrose Plantation near Natchitoches. | The U. S. 90 - Rigolets Bridge connecting New Orleans with Mississippi to the east is completed under Governor Long. It subverts the Watson-Williams toll bridge (U.S. 11 Bridge.) arranged by Governor Fuqua in the mid-1920s which Long had fought as the young chairman of the Public Service Commission. |
