Baseball commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis is in town in December 1938 at the Roosevelt Hotel.
Tennessee (Thomas Lanier) Williams (1911-1983) arrives in New Orleans from St. Louis and will live in the French Quarter intermittently until his death in 1983. He failed to acquire positions with the WPA in Chicago, then New Orleans. He moves into a boarding house at 722 Toulouse St. The Buccaneer starring Frederick March as the swashbuckling Jean Lafitte, Akim Tamiroff as Dominique You. Cecil B. DeMille directs. Santa Clara defeats Louisiana State 6-0 in this year's Sugar Bowl.
