| The New Orleans Pelicans of the Southern League attract 400,036 fans to Pelican Stadium, a baseball attendance record that will stand for 50 years in New Orleans. The reason is the team s bounce from a bottom half team of last year to a 93-59 record this year and were in contention for the pennant until the last day of the season. Home grown heros this year were Al Flair, Mel Rue, Jesse Danna and Pete Modica. They bearly miss winning the Southern League playoffs and the Dixie Series. | Louis Armstrong receives a major role in a second rate film called New Orleans in which Kid Ory and Zutty Singleton also appear. Armstrong also abandons the big bands for smaller groups permanently. | A letter from the New Orleans city attorney warns aircraft using Moisant Airport not to throw anything out of windows over neighborhoods. | The Belmont Plantation house is destroyed by fire. This plantation has produced sugar since the late 19th century and is the site of an unusual water powered sugar mill. | Louisiana and Arkansas play to a 0-0 tie in this year's Cotton Bowl. | |||||||
