Jazz Trumpeter Dave Bartholomew records young boggie-woogie pianist Fats Domino. Recording companies and night clubs such as Dew Drop Inn abound in the city during the next decade. Trumpeter Bunk Johnson dies in New Iberia of a stroke. Moisant Airport is named the nation s third busiest airport for international travellers behind Miami and New York. The Kenner City Council approves measures aimed at stopping further expansion of Moisant Airport which it calls a growing cancer. Last year its first long-range plan was drawn up introducing a $14.4 million capital improvements program calling for a new terminal and tower. Aviation Board Chairman Edward Rapier makes an appeal calling the Quonset hut a ³blot upon the city ... a shabby, seedy place.² Noel Coward s Private Lives starring Tallulah Bankhead (1903-1968) is appearing at the Poché Theatre, 535 Baronne St. on December 26-31.
