On June 29, 1967 Actress Jayne Mansfield is killed in an early morning car accident while on her way to New Orleans for a television interview later that day. She had been appearing at the Gus Stevens Supper Club in Biloxi. The accident happened on U. S. Highway 90 near the Rigolets. |

Another student is the first black to win an athletic scholarship to Tulane University. During Mardi Gras, its band is the first black high school band to march in a Rex parade. After fining a suit in federal court St. Augustine High School celebrates as the first black school to enter the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. |
