On June 29, 1967 Actress Jayne Mansfield is killed in an early morning car accident while on her way to New Orleans for a television interview later that day. She had been appearing at the Gus Stevens Supper Club in Biloxi. The accident happened on U. S. Highway 90 near the Rigolets. |

St. Augustine High School celebrates as one of its graduates is the first black student to graduate from Tulane University. Another student is the first black to win an athletic scholarship to Tulane University. During Mardi Gras, its band is the first black high school band to march in a Rex parade. After fining a suit in federal court St. Augustine High School celebrates as the first black school to enter the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. |
