John G. Schwegmann of resigns from the Public Service Commission. It is filled seven months later by his son John F. Schwegmann of Schwegmann Brothers Giant Super Markets Pan American Life Insurance building, Poydras at St. Charles, completed. This 27 story building is faced in red Granite.

Dick Stanfel becomes the seventh Saints coach. He finished out the 1980 season ending the team's 14 game losing streak with a 1-3-0 record. January 1 Sugar Bowl in the Super Dome: Alabama wins the National Championship again by beating Arkanasa 24-9. November 25 Sugar Ray Leonard defeats Roberto Duran in the Dome in a bout titled the "No mas" fight. December 6: New Orleans Pride, Woman's Professional Basketball League, plays first game vs. New Jersey in the Dome.
